Overview

The software to reduce Spitzer data is split into the software supported by the Spitzer Science Center (Supported Software - listed below); and Contributed Software developed and maintained by the wider Spitzer community. Please contact the appropriate developers for support for the Contributed Software. Support for SSC software is available by emailing us at the Spitzer Helpdesk, though you might want to check the FAQ page first to see if your question is answered there.

Important Notes

  • The software supported by the SSC is tested on Solaris 8+, Linux RedHat and Mac OSX 10.3+. The new MOPEX GUI is also tested on Windows. The SSC is unable to support software being run on any other platform, including other flavours of Linux. There is a known issue with Perl library linking problems when running old versions of MOPEX on non-RedHat Linux platforms. If you are experiencing difficulties, please try using the new MOPEX GUI and email us at the Spitzer Helpdesk to let us know whether you were successful, so we can add it to the list of tested platforms.

Supported Software

IMAGING & MIPS SED

MOPEX Includes the point source photometry package APEX. For use with IRAC, MIPS and IRS Peak-Up imaging data, and MIPS SED data. Contains many tools, including backbround-matching, mosaicking and point-source photometry.
Bandmerge Bandmerge is currently being redeveloped by the SSC. A new version should be available in Spring 2008. After initial testing, we have determined that a GUI is not practical at this time. The software will be released with wrapper scripts similar to the command-line version of MOPEX.

In the meantime, the executables that make up Bandmerge are available. Please contact the Helpdesk (help@spitzer.caltech.edu) for access. The executables are currently intended only for expert users. Only very limited support from the SSC will be available until the new release.

The GeRT The GeRT (Germanium Reprocessing Tools) allow users to carry out custom offline data reduction of MIPS-Ge (70 um and 160 um) data. Most users will find that the SSC archive products are sufficient for their needs.

SPECTROSCOPY

SPICE Spitzer IRS Custom Extractor: a Java-based GUI tool for interactively extracting IRS spectra.
CUBISM CUbe Builder for IRS Spectral Maps: CUBISM is a tool for constructing spectral cubes, maps and arbitrary aperture 1D spectral extractions from sets of mapping-mode IRS spectra.
IRSCLEAN An IDL-based interactive tool for creating bad pixel masks from Spitzer IRS BCDs and "cleaning" the masked pixels in one or more BCD files prior to spectral extraction. IRSCLEAN_MASK is an outgrowth of the non-interactive IRSCLEAN package. Most of the functionality of IRSCLEAN is accessed by IRSCLEAN_MASK, but the program takes care of file input/output and queries you when it needs information.
IRSFRINGE An IDL-based GUI package that allows observers to interactively remove fringes from IRS spectra.
