The MIPS Data Handbook (DH) is the essential technical
reference manual for people working with MIPS data. There are several
ancillary files that may be of interest.
Getting the Document and Ancillary Files
VERSION: 3.3, 24 August 07
All files are available in PDF format.
Some figures may not display well on some monitors, but should print
satisfactorily.
- MIPS Data Handbook,
version 3.3, 24 Aug 07
- The main document.
- "Reduction Algorithms for the Multiband
Imaging Photometer for Spitzer,
K. Gordon, et al., 2005, PASP, 117, 503
- Detailed description of the pipelines.
- "Processing of 24 micron Image
Data at the Spitzer Science Center" by F. Masci, et al.
- Presented at the November 2004 ADASS meeting.
- MIPS data products and filenaming convention
- A list and description of each of the files you get when you download
MIPS data.
- Alphabetical list of keywords
- An alphabetical list of keywords found in all MIPS BCD products.
- Sample MIPS PRFs for use with APEX
Note that the PRF can be a function of mirror position, position on array,
and color of object, so we strongly encourage you to derive PRFs
for your specific case if at all possible. See the post-bcd documentation page
for three different documents on various aspects of this process,
including definitions of how PRFs differ from PSFs.
- Sample namelists for use with MOPEX
Pipeline namelists
Example namelists from Chapter 7 of Data Handbook
Example SED namelists
- mosaic_sed.nl - Uses input uncertainties to compute output spectrum uncertainties.
- mosaic_sed_all.nl - Uses std uncertainty mosaics to compute output spectrum uncertainties. Cluster positions are not split.
- Also see the Data Analysis Cookbooks
for examples with real data.
- MIPS Pmasks
- Sample IDL code mentioned in the Data Handbook
(All updated 28 June 04)
- clean70.pro - Cleans up 70 um data cube of
stacked BCDs images
- medfilt.pro - Applies median filter for
MIPS-Ge data
- medfiltss.pro - Applies median filter for
MIPS-Ge data, preserving spatial scales
Also see the Contributed Software
Archive for several MIPS-related programs.

Document Update Plans
We plan to update this document frequently
as our understanding of MIPS matures.
Problems in printing/viewing?
- The files above are available in PDF and postscript.
- Some figures may not display well on some monitors, but have printed
satisfactorily in our testing.
- Occasionally the Greek letters (sigma, lambda, pi) embedded in the
document generate errors or are translated into Roman letters (s, l, p).
This is apparently a function of the specific fonts installed on any given
system. We have not successfully found a remedy for this problem, but it
occurred only about 10% of the time in our testing.
- Sorry, we do not have printed copies available at this time.
