7.2 Target Selection and Duplication Check

As described in more detail in Chapter 6, the first consideration in planning a Spitzer observing proposal is whether the intended target has already been observed, or approved for observations, with Spitzer. In this case, searching the Spitzer Reserved Observations Catalog by querying Leopard

reveals that the Ring Nebula (NGC 6720) is selected for observation with IRAC in GTO program PID 68, and with MIPS in PID 77, either of which can be downloaded using Spot (from the File menu, choose ``View Program,'' and enter either PID). However, the Ring Nebula is not currently scheduled for IRS observations. Thus, there are no target duplication conflicts with the proposed example observations of the Ring Nebula.
