Spot User's Guide: See Spot Run

The Spot User's Guide is designed to assist you in using Spot. Hardware and software requirements, installation information, and details of how to use Spot are to be found in this document. Answers to questions users may have about how Spot will allow you to specify your Spitzer observations can be found here. Answers to detailed questions about the science instruments on-board Spitzer and how they operate are answered in the Spitzer Observer's Manual.

Getting the Document

All files are in PDF Format.
Some figures may not display well on some monitors, but should print satisfactorily.

See also the Spitzer Pride software page for Release Notes and Known Bugs/Issues.

Getting the Software

To download the Spitzer Pride itself, see the Spitzer Pride download page.

Document Organization

The Spot User's Guide contains these major elements:
  • Introduction
  • What's New in Spot
  • Minimum Recommended Hardware Configurations
  • Operating System Configurations Supported
  • Installing and Starting Spot
  • General Information
  • Spot Menus
  • Spot Main Screen
  • Entering an Astronomical Observation Request (AOR)

There is an on-line Known Bugs List on the software page with a list of the known software bugs and suggested workarounds.

Document Update Plans

The Spot User's Guide will be updated with every major release of the Spot software, expected to occur at least with every Spitzer Call for Proposals.

The on-line Known Bugs List on the Spot software page will be updated when a reported bug is confirmed. Possible workarounds are included in this List.

Other Relevant Documents

There are five documents needed to plan, prepare and submit a Spitzer observing proposal:

Also see the Performance Estimation Tool (the PET has sensitivities; there are other tools too), the Proposal Submission Guide, the Observation Planning Cookbook (includes specific examples with AORs!), and even more stuff listed in the proposal kit...
