Updates 16 August 05

The extragalactic First-Look Survey has released lots of 70 and 160 um data.

Updates 6 July 05

  • The extragalactic First-Look Survey has made enhanced mosaics and source catalogs available. The accompanying paper is Lacy et al., 2005, ApJS, 161, 41.

  • As part of the MIPS calibration program and as a continuous effort to characterize the range of operating temperatures for the MIPS 70um array, we have released 17hrs of observations of the Extragalactic FLS taken in May 2005 at a primary mirror temperature of approx 9.5K (in contrast with the 5.6K normal operating temperature). The data cover a region of 2 square degrees at 24 and 70um (with 160um being completely saturated). The 70um data at this higher temperature is noisier by 4% to 13%, but no adverse effects were found at 24um. A full report of the 70 micron sensitivity at this operating temperature can be found Frayer et al. (2005, internal report). The program with these AORs is 1862, and the AOR labels are "xFLS-N", where N goes from 1 to 6.

15 Jan 04 Announcing the release of the IRAC FLS data

We are pleased to announce the release of the IRAC FLS data, for all three components (Extragalactic, Galactic, and Ecliptic). The MIPS data for all three FLS components will be available as soon as it is processed with the commissioned pipeline.

Please read the letter from the Director as well as the README_First file. The separate README file for IRAC discusses the current issues with IRAC data. The list of IRAC pipeline products and filenaming convention lists them all, including file types, format and description.

History: News items from the January FLS Sampler Release

(20 Jan 04)
See images in this PDF file; caption reads: The red image in the PDF shows the performance of a prototype 70 micron analysis approach that contains improvements over the current version of the SSC pipeline. The blue image is the same field at 24 microns, with a somewhat longer integration, to show the correspondence of sources at the two bands. The improvements will soon be implemented in the SSC pipeline.

The details are -- Marano strip, 200 seconds integration 24 microns (blue), 90 seconds 70 microns (red). Field at 70 microns about 10 x 30 arcmin.

Ecliptic FLS results report: Thermal Observations and Preliminary Number Counts
(10 Feb 04)
As a result of a recently fixed bug in our mosaicer (MOPEX), the CTYPE1 & CYTPE2 header keywords in the FLS mosaics are not correct. In the files below, CTYPE1 = 'RA---''TA' and CTYPE2 = '''''TAN''' . Users should edit the header to be instead CTYPE1 = 'RA---TAN' and CTYPE2 = 'DEC--TAN' to get the correct WCS.
