The Spitzer Science Center (SSC) offers an electronically-accessible
Science Archive.
Solicitations for funding support for Archival Research
appear as part of consolidated
annual Calls for Proposals.
The primary purpose of the Spitzer Archival Research program is to facilitate effective scientific research that uses existing Spitzer data whenever possible. New Spitzer observations should only be proposed when existing data in the Science Archive cannot adequately address the needs of a proposed science investigation. The Archival Research (AR) Program is an integral part of Spitzer and is expected to provide substantial scientific returns beyond the end of the Observatory's prime cryogenic mission. An AR proposal should be submitted only if investigators are seeking funding support. Archival researchers may access and use Spitzer data placed in the public domain. This also includes enhanced data products returned to the SSC by the Legacy teams for distribution to the community. Laboratory astrophysics relevant to Spitzer observations is an acceptable component of an archival proposal.
Cycle-6For Cycle 6 and up, archival research is funded through the NASA/ADP program
