Meetings sponsored by SIRTF, 1998-2002
- Debris Disks
and the Formation of Planets: A Symposium in Memory of Fred
Gillett
-
The Spitzer Science Center (SSC) co-sponsored a science symposium to honor
one of the pioneers of infrared astronomy, held April 11-13, 2002 in
Tucson, Arizona. Dr. Gillett, 64, passed away in April 2001, following a
months-long battle with a rare bone marrow disorder.
- The Fourth Tetons Summer Conference: Galactic Structure,
Stars, and the Interstellar Medium
- This conference was held at the Jackson Lake Lodge in Wyoming's Grand
Teton National Park, May 28 - June 1, 2000. Slides presented by Michael D.
Bicay, pertaining to the Legacy Science Program, are available
online. The conference proceedings are available as Volume 231 in the Astronomical
Society of the Pacific Conference Series (edited by Woodward, Bicay,
and Shull).
- The Solar System and Circumstellar Dust Disks: Prospects for
SIRTF
- This workshop attracted nearly 100 scientists and was held August
18-20, 1999 in Dana Point, California. It brought together members of the
planetary science community and SSC staff to discuss the unique
requirements inherent in planetary science studies. No formal proceedings
will be published; however, all
of the talks are on line, as is a report by the Scientific
Organizing Committee co-Chairs (Cruikshank and Hanner) and the SSC
Response.
- Astrophysics With Infrared Surveys: A Prelude to SIRTF
- This conference attracted over 200 scientists and was held June 22-24,
1998 at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. The
conference proceedings are available as Volume 177 in the Astronomical
Society of the Pacific Conference Series (edited by Bicay, Beichman,
Cutri, and Madore). The basic website for this conference is still available online.
