Summary
The Spitzer Space Telescope is a space-borne, cryogenically-cooled
infrared observatory, carrying three primary science instruments with
imaging/photometry capabilities from 3 to 180 microns, spectroscopy over
5-40 microns, and spectrophotometry from 50 to 100 microns. The first
General Observing Cycle is underway, and the deadline for the second
General Observer Call for Proposals is 12 February 2004.

We first summarize the main characteristics of the Spitzer Space Telescope
and highlight the results obtained during the first 12 months of
operations, including some of the most spectacular images published to
date. Feel free to bring your lunch!
1:45-2:45
After a short break, those interested in planning Spitzer
observations are welcome to stay for an observation planning session. You
are encouraged to bring your own laptop. Space (and a network connection)
is first come, first
served. This workshop will provide a primer on how to download and use Spot,
the
tool Spitzer observers use to plan observations and submit GO proposals.
We will go through at least one
specific example
that you can follow along using Spot on your laptop. We strongly encourage
you to download and install Spot in your laptop computer before attending
this session.
