SSC Observer Support Team A Letter to Our Mac Users ------------------------- Dear Mac Users, We are aware that the JAVA supplied by Apple with Panther (OS 10.3) does not work properly with Spot. We have been very frustrated with the Mac development process as the Mac operating system and JAVA versions have not been stable or reliable. We remain committed to having a fully functional version of Spot running on the Mac even though Apple hasn't made it very easy for us. Please remember that Spot works very well on three other platforms (Solaris, Windows, and Linux) and the same developers that brought you Spot are also very busy with the development of our archive interface. We are currently working with yet another new version of JAVA for the Mac and are encouraged by the limited testing we have done to date. We MAY be able to release an engineering version of Spot for Mac OS 10.3 within another week. That being said, we cannot guarantee complete success with this effort so I also suggest that you formulate a back-up plan using another platform to submit your proposals. We will post an update on the status of Spot for Mac OS 10.3 as soon as we have any new information. Thank you for your patience. Lisa Storrie-Lombardi Science User Tools Scientist
