Date: Tue, 11 May 2004 16:02:46 -0700 (PDT) From: Spitzer Science Center HelpDesk Subject: SIRTF: Spitzer Science Archive is open! The Spitzer Science Archive is open!! We have recently completed our commissioning reviews for the pipelines for all three instruments. The archive is being populated with data from IRAC and MIPS processed with commissioned science pipelines as quickly as we can process it. We have created a STATUS page that shows the processing and archiving status for all the instrument campaigns. We will be updating this daily. We do not have as many campaigns processed and archived as we had hoped to for the archive opening but we preferred to open with what we have rather than delay the opening. We have been experiencing serious problems with our processing disk farm in the past week which has held up the reprocessing and archiving. We are working to resolve this. Briefly, data is PROCESSED through the pipelines, then ARCHIVED and made available through the interface, and First Look Survey, Legacy, and Early Release Observation data are also staged to the Popular Products web site (data.spitzer.caltech.edu/popular). It is much faster to get the public data from the website than having to query it out of the archive yourself. ALL USERS: If you want more than a couple of AORs we STRONGLY recommend that you use Leopard, our archive client software. Leopard will managed the download for you. Leopard and Spot are now packaged together in software called 'Spitzer Pride'. Please download this and it will unpack the latest version of Spot and Leopard. DOWNLOADING PUBLIC DATA The First Look Survey, Legacy, and Early Release Observation data are staged for download on our Popular Products website (data.spitzer.caltech.edu/popular). 0. Check the Leopard bugs list to learn about any software issues that affect data downloads. http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/propkit/spot/leopardbugs.txt 1. Option 1 -- Recommended download strategy a. Download the Spitzer Pride software (http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/propkit/spot/) b. Install Spitzer Pride (Auto-update won't work this time) c. Start Leopard d. Select Popular Products Query from the File menu and choose the data sets you want e. Select Download Selections from the file menu and let the Leopard Subscriber manage the data download from the Popular Products website. 2. Option 2 -- Go to data.spitzer.caltech.edu/popular/ and download the files individually. If you only want one or two files, this is the fastest method. For any large queries we recommend Option 1. 3. Option 3 -- Use the web query interface (archive.spitzer.caltech.edu) or the regular query options in Leopard. Either of these methods means that all the data needs to be packaged and staged again before download. We highly recommend using option 1. ------------------ Other recently updated significant files include + Spitzer observing schedules and logs + NEW IRAC Data Handbook + UPDATED IRAC filenaming convention + NEW MIPS Data Handbook + UPDATED MIPS filenaming convention + UPDATED IRS filenaming convention + Updated SSO documentation: SSO Observing with Spitzer and Horizons tips for Solar System Observers Note also that there is a new SPOT version (to go with the new Leopard version), and that Auto-update WILL NOT WORK, so you need to go download the whole package and install it anew.
