S15-reprocessed IRS Data Now Available ------------------------------------------------------------- Data from Spitzer campaigns IRS-1 through 37 have been reprocessed with the S15.3.0 pipelines and were archived and released on 02/28/07. Data from IOC/SV campaigns N2 through R were also released. For details of the S15.3.0 pipelines see: http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/archanaly/plhistory/irs.html. Access to Spitzer data is via Leopard in the SSC's Spitzer-Pride package (contains Spot and Leopard); see http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/propkit/spot/. 2. New SPICE Calibration Files ------------------------------------------- New S15 calibration files are now available for SPICE. These are required for the user to extract spectra from data processed with the S15 pipeline (all the data currently in the archive). The new files can be downloaded directly from within SPICE. Detailed instructions are available in IRS News: New calibration files available for SPICE (at http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/irs/news.html). 3. Workshop on Science Opportunities for the Warm Spitzer Mission ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------- The Workshop on Science Opportunities for the Warm Spitzer Mission will be held 4-5 June 2007 in Pasadena, CA. The workshop steering committee is actively working on white papers exploring the warm mission science. Attendance at the workshop will be limited to 75 participants. There is no registration fee. You must express interest in participating by May 1, 2007 by filling out the form now available on the SSC website. We will confirm acceptance of your participation by May 4, 2007. Visit the website for more information! http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/mtgs/warm/ 4. Visiting Graduate Students Fellowship Program 2007 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Spitzer Science Center (SSC) announces the availability of six-month graduate student fellowships beginning summer 2007, designed to allow students from other institutions throughout the world to visit the SSC and perform astronomical research in close association with a SSC staff member during 2007/8. The aim of the program is to provide graduate students from other institutions with the opportunity to work at the SSC during the Spitzer mission, and to share in the excitement of NASA's latest Great Observatory. Applicants would be expected to have completed preliminary course work in their graduate program and be available for research during the period of the award. Funding from the SSC will be provided for a 6-month period via a monthly stipend, airfare to the SSC from the home institution and some start-up expenses. Typically 4-5 students will be accepted in the program. Students would normally begin work at the SSC in July 2007 and leave in late January/early February 2008. The application deadline is April 20, 2007. For further information, please see our web site: http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/vgsp/. 5. The fourth Spitzer Science Conference -------------------------------------------------------- The fourth Spitzer Science Conference, "The Evolving ISM in the Milky Way and Nearby Galaxies," will be held in Pasadena, CA from 2-5 December, 2007. The Conference will focus on synthesizing recent results for the interstellar medium (ISM) and its interplay with star formation in the Milky Way and nearby galaxies. Major topical sessions will focus on: - "Massive Star Formation, Young Stellar Clusters and their effects on the Galaxy and Nearby Systems". - "SNR in the Milky Way and Beyond". - "Turbulence in the ISM and Normal Galaxies". - "Cold Dust and Molecular Gas in the Galaxy and Normal Galaxies". - "The Diffuse ISM in the Milky Way & Nearby Systems". - "Evolved Objects in the Galaxy & Nearby Galaxies". - "Aromatic Features and Line Emission Diagnostics". In addition to a number of invited talks, there will be opportunities for contributed talks and posters on Spitzer results, or on closely related topics. Space will be reserved for late-breaking observational results, particularly from Spitzer Cycle 4 General Observers who will start their observations in July 2007. For more information about the symposium please see: http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/mtgs/ismevol/. The Co-Chairs for the Conference are Alberto Noriega-Crespo and Kartik Sheth. 6. Spitzer at the May AAS Meeting in Honolulu --------------------------------------------------------------- Spitzer will have an exhibit at the AAS Meeting in Honolulu on May 27-31. Stop by for a visit, get help with your data analysis, and ask us about Cycle-5. We look forward to seeing you there. Aloha! REMINDER: The Cycle-5 Call for Proposals will be on 2007 August 15, with proposals due on November 16. Cycle-5 will be the last cryogenic observing cycle.
