Chandra X-ray Grating Spectroscopy Workshop PLEASE NOTE: The Cycle-5 Call for Proposals will be on 2007 August 15, with proposals due on November 16. Cycle-5 will be the last cryogenic observing cycle. 1. Registration now open for August Data Analysis Workshop ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The SSC is pleased to announce the fifth Spitzer Data Analysis Workshop to be held during the week of August 27-31, 2007. The workshop will provide information about Spitzer data for all 3 of our science instruments. It will also provide opportunities for hands-on work and consultation with members of our instrument support and science user support teams. The workshop is primarily intended for scientists involved with Cycles 1-3 Guest Observer and Archival programs, although Guest Observers who will already have Cycle 4 data in hand by mid-August are also invited. Registration is open now, Monday, April 9, 2007, and will continue through July 30 or until all spaces are filled (whichever comes first). See this webpage for all of the details: http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/sust/workshop/2007data1/ 2. Got AAS news? ------------------------- Do you have an exciting science result using Spitzer data? A great spectrum or image? Did you select the "newsworthy" option when you submitted your AAS abstract? If so, please contact the Spitzer public affairs team immediately! We coordinate all press activity based on Spitzer data, and can also produce a number of other innovative communications products (e.g., podcasts, vodcasts, web news features) to help tell your story to the general public! Contact Gordon Squires (squires@ipac.caltech.edu), or the Spitzer Helpdesk (help@spitzer.caltech.edu). 3. Reminder about Warm Mission Workshop ------------------------------------------------------------- A reminder that a Workshop on Science Opportunities for the Warm Spitzer Mission will be held 4-5 June 2007 in Pasadena, CA. The workshop steering committee is actively working on white papers exploring the warm mission science. Attendance at the workshop will be limited to 75 participants. There is no registration fee. You must express interest in participating by May 1, 2007 by filling out the form now available on the SSC website. We will confirm acceptance of your participation by May 4, 2007. Visit the website for more information: http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/mtgs/warm/. 4. Chandra X-ray Grating Spectroscopy Workshop --------------------------------------------------------------------- >From our colleagues at Chandra: We are pleased to announce X-ray Grating Spectroscopy, a science workshop sponsored by the Chandra X-ray Center. We are eager for scientists working with complementary spectroscopy at any wavelength to join the fun. The workshop will be held July 11-13, 2007 in Cambridge, Massachusetts at the Sheraton Commander Hotel The Workshop webpage http://cxc.harvard.edu/xgratings07 provides details, including invited speakers, accommodation information, and a link for Registration/Abstract Submission. For contributed talks and poster presentations the ***** DEADLINE is Wednesday May 02, 2007 ****** for both registration and abstract submission. A final registration/submission deadline (for poster presentations only) is Wednesday May 30, 2007 Please note that this is during the AAS meeting. WORKSHOP GOALS * review progress afforded by X-ray grating spectroscopy of extragalactic and galactic sources * compare/contrast physical conditions, estimates of location, geometry and kinematics of X-ray emitters/absorbers, encompassing collisionally- and photo-excited gas across different source types * review and compare available atomic data and codes * provide a forum for discussion of: -controversial or unexpected new results -potential new strategies for Chandra/XMM grating observations SCOPE OF THE MEETING INCLUDE * New high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy results from the latest observations of extragalactic and galactic sources * Deep IGM studies * Related medium-resolution X-ray spectroscopy results from current satellites * Theoretical interpretations and modeling issues * Spectroscopic studies in conjunction with other wavebands * The future of X-ray spectroscopy EXCLUDE * Results and discussions based primarily on X-ray imaging or timing results
