Fixed IRAC Pipeline Muxbleed Correction ------------------------------------------------------------- The IRAC pipeline did not have the muxbleed correction correctly implemented until pipeline version S16, released earlier this spring. New data with pipeline processing versions S16 and beyond will have the correct correction applied. Note, however, that the old data will not be reprocessed to S16. The next comprehensive IRAC data reprocessing will probably take place in S17 (late this year) or S18 (late spring to summer 2008). Some caution should be used with the muxbleed correction. Muxbleed from saturated objects is poorly corrected, and muxbleed from bright cosmic rays is often overcorrected by the pipeline. Also, the affected pixels closest to the bright object are overcorrected. More work is ongoing to fine-tune the muxbleed correction. 2. Updated SPICE Extended Source Calibration Files for High-Res ------------------------------------------------------------- Four incorrect calibration files were included in the last calibration update for SPICE. The incorrect files are C15.0/b1_aploss_fluxcon.tbl, C15.0/b3_aploss_fluxcon.tbl, C15.0PRE25/b1_aploss_fluxcon.tbl, C15.0PRE25/b3_aploss_fluxcon.tbl. These files are ONLY used when applying extended source calibration to high resolution (SH, LH) data processed with pipelines from S15 onward. NOTE: CUBISM does not use these calibration files, and so it is not affected by this problem. To download the correct calibration files into SPICE, users should do the following: (1) press "Update" in the bottom left of the SPICE window (2) press "Refresh List" (3) select the box: "IRS Calibration Files Set 15.0" (4) Press "Update Now" The correct files will be downloaded to the SPICE calibration directory. Users should then re-extract and re-tune their extended source high-res data. 3. Annual Reviews Article Input Solicited ------------------------------------------------------------- From: Tom Soifer, George Helou, and Mike Werner. We are preparing a review article on Spitzer extragalactic results to date for publication in the fall 2008, Volume of Annual Reviews of Astronomy and Astrophysics. This is a request to solicit your input. If you have a paper in preparation which you expect to have submitted by fall 2007, we would very much like the opportunity to consider it for inclusion in this article. We will have collected all refereed papers that have appeared in the ADS refereed references as of 1 July 2007, so you do not need to send copies of such papers. Also, if you would like your results to be kept confidential for the time being, please indicate and we will comply with your wishes. We would appreciate receiving your contributions by August 15. However, if something late-breaking shows up later in August or September, please feel free to send it along as well. Please send the papers to bts@ipac.caltech.edu. Thanks again for your help. 4. Second Announcement for 2007 Spitzer Science Conference ------------------------------------------------------------- The second announcement of the 2007 Spitzer Science Conference on the ISM in the Galaxy and nearby galaxies December 2-5 in Pasadena, California, is now available at http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/mtgs/ismevol/ . This conference is designed to bring together two communities of astronomers - those studying the Milky Way and those studying external galaxies. The abstract submission and registration are now open. We encourage you to register early to guarantee your place in the conference which will be limited to approximately 275 people. The early registration deadline is September 21, 2007, which is also the abstract submission deadline for talks or posters. Please take some time to explore our website mentioned above, including the interactive, electronic conference poster. Please spread the word about the conference to your colleagues. We look forward to seeing you in Pasadena in December. 5. Registration Still Available for August Data Analysis Workshop ------------------------------------------------------------- There is still some space available in the Spitzer Data Analysis Workshop, to be held August 27-31, 2007, at the Spitzer Science Center in Pasadena, but it is filling up fast. The workshop is primarily intended for scientists involved with Cycles 1, 2, and 3 General Observer and Archival programs, although General Observers who will already have Cycle 4 data in hand by mid-August are also invited. Registration is open till July 30, 2007, or until all spaces are filled. See http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/sust/workshop/2007data1/ . PLEASE NOTE: The Cycle-5 Call for Proposals will be on 2007 August 15, with proposals due on November 16. Cycle-5 will be the last cryogenic observing cycle.
