Spitzer Warm Mission Evening Event at the Austin AAS 2. SOFIA Workshop at the Austin AAS 1. Spitzer Warm Mission Evening Event at the Austin AAS ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- We will be holding a special evening session at the upcoming AAS Meeting in Austin on Wednesday, January 9, at 7 PM CST, to discuss Science Opportunities with the Spitzer Warm Mission. This community session will explore the science drivers for the Warm Mission both using (a) the shortest two IRAC channels at 3.6 and 4.5 microns and (b) archival research with the rich Spitzer archive. Room location and further details will be posted at http://www.aas.org/meetings/aas211/event_spitzer.php. We look forward to seeing you there! 2. SOFIA Workshop at the Austin AAS --------------------------------------------------- A workshop on SOFIA Early Science Opportunities will be held at the upcoming AAS meeting in Austin on Monday, January 7, from 1 to 5 PM. Note that this is prior to the AAS opening reception on Monday evening. That is a change in date from previous announcements, partly due to the unusual Monday to Friday schedule of this AAS meeting. This will be the first in a series of workshops regarding early science opportunities with SOFIA, currently scheduled to begin in early- to mid-2009. The workshop will include updates on the state of the SOFIA program including its complement of 9 scientific instruments, plus a charge to working groups that will meet in splinter sessions to consider the early SOFIA general observer science plan, and update SOFIA's scientific cases. EVERYONE IS WELCOME. We encourage attendance by astronomers who have never had airborne astronomy experience, theoreticians, and astronomers making use of the Spitzer Space Telescope. This is an opportunity to help define the ways that SOFIA can best serve the scientific community. SOC Co-chairs: Bob Gehrz, U. Minnesota; Tom Roellig, NASA-Ames / SOFIA.
