Date: Thursday 04 November, 2010, 15:12 PDT Subject: SPITZER: Leopard Retirement, Cycle-8 Letters of Intent, Correction to the IRAC Pointing Wobble Memo Contents: 1. Leopard Retirement 2. Cycle-8 Letters of Intent Deadline Reminder 3. Correction to the IRAC Pointing Wobble Memo 1. Leopard Retirement --------------------------------------------------- REMINDER: The primary place where you should be downloading Spitzer data is now the Spitzer Heritage Archive (SHA), which is resident at the NASA/IPAC Infrared Science Archive (IRSA) at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center (IPAC). http://irsa.ipac.caltech.edu/applications/Spitzer/SHA/ As previously advertised, **Leopard is now retired as the Spitzer archive interface** -- data downloads are now disabled through Leopard! The SHA provides, among other things, a much more efficient data packaging process than Leopard did, plus the ability to only retrieve the portion of an AOR relevant to your search. Recipes on downloading data from the SHA have been added to the Spitzer Data Analysis Cookbook, available here: http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/dataanalysistools/cookbook/ The first recipe, a simple SHA search, is here: http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/dataanalysistools/cookbook/5/ A more detailed example, using the tools native to the SHA to assess the qualities of several different observations of the same region, can be found as the next recipe in the Data Analysis Cookbook: http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/dataanalysistools/cookbook/6/ There is also online help embedded in the SHA. A full PDF manual for the SHA is planned for SHA version 2.0, due out in Feb 2011. Known bugs and other idiosyncrasies are available here: http://irsa.ipac.caltech.edu/docs/known_issues/shabugslist.html Any questions regarding the SHA or the Leopard retirement should be directed to the Spitzer Helpdesk at help@spitzer.caltech.edu. Bon Voyage Leopard! 2. Spitzer Cycle-8 Exploration Science Proposals, Letter of Intent Deadline Reminder --------------------------------------------------- The Cycle-8 Exploration Science Proposal Letter of Intent deadline is Monday, 15 November 2010, 5 PM PST. Letters of Intent should contain the following: 1. Principal Investigator + Institutional Affiliation 2. Co-Investigators + Institutional Affiliations 3. Proposal Title 4. Proposal Science Category (from the list in the Spot Proposal Submission Tool) 5. Brief Abstract Letters of Intent should be emailed to the SSC Helpdesk at help@spitzer.caltech.edu The deadline for Cycle-8 Exploration Science Proposals is 28 January 2011, 5pm PST. See the proposals kit at http://ssc.spitzer.caltech.edu/warmmission/propkit/ for detailed information. Any questions should be addressed to the Spitzer Helpdesk at help@spitzer.caltech.edu. 3. Correction to the IRAC Pointing Wobble Memo --------------------------------------------------- We would like to issue a minor correction to the IRAC Pointing Wobble Memo included in the 28 October 2010 email blast. The pre-change AORKEY is 40837888 and the post-change AORKEY is 40838144. Spitzer Science User Support
