SSC Visit Request Form

The Science User Support Team at the Spitzer Science Center is available to assist potential science visitors to the SSC with needed facilities for the visit. If you are a scientist who needs to visit collaborators at the SSC, please submit the information below to the Spitzer Helpdesk. If you are instead from the general public, we have a separate collection of resources for you.

Please submit the following content to the Spitzer Helpdesk at least one week or 5 business days prior to start of visit. Thank you for announcing your visit early!

    Date(s) of Visit:
Estimated Time of Arrival at SSC (if known):
    Visitor Name:

    E-mail Address:
    Phone Number:

    SSC Contact Person:

The SSC maintains an Affiliated Network that visitors with laptops can plug into and access the internet. Visitors are encouraged to have DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) software installed on their laptops prior to their visit to accommodate this connection. Access to SSC printers is possible with this network. Visitors must fill out and sign an Affiliated Network Access Request Form when they arrive. This form asks for basic information about your laptop (type, model, OS, MAC address) so we can backtrack to a user if an issue arises.

Is access to the Affiliated Network needed?

The SSC has four science desktop computers (Macs) and two Linux laptop computers with external keyboards and external 20" monitors. The desktop and laptop computers will be assigned to SSC visitors on a first come, first served basis.

If a visitor computer account is needed, would you prefer to have a Linux or a Mac account?

Any other requests you may have of the SSC during your visit?

Thank you, and we look forward to accommodating your visitor needs.

The SSC occupies the top three levels (2nd through 4th floors) of the Keith Spalding Administration Building. There are administrative staff on the west side of both the 2nd and 3rd floors. Spalding/SSC is building #6 on the Caltech campus map.
Parking: New parking regulations for the areas near the SSC were instituted in late 2005. There is long-term street parking near the SSC (avoid green or red curbs, or the ones explicitly posted as requiring parking permits, or residential areas), or you can park in our snazzy new parking garage located under the athletic field just south of the SSC. You must pay to park in the parking garage. Transportation

    Burbank Airport to Pasadena:
The smaller Burbank Airport is recommended for its efficiency and proximity to Pasadena. Travel time by car, shared ride vans, or taxi is typically half of that from LAX. Shared ride vans offer the same services as described below for LAX, at about the same cost (but generally faster pickup and delivery to Pasadena, and vice versa). Taxi rides will run about $35-45 one way.

    LAX Airport to Pasadena:
    Public Transportation:
Recently, Los Angeles Airport and Metro introduced the Fly Away bus service. Now you can get from the Airport to Pasadena in about an hour (max hour and a half)! Not only is the system punctual, efficient, safe and even luxurious, but it is also relatively inexpensive. We recommend this route if you are arriving at a reasonable hour and don't have heavy bags.

At the airport go to the Green sign which says "Fly Away Bus". Catch the bus to Union Station. It runs every half hour between 5:00 am to 1:00 am, and hourly from 1 am to 5am. You pay when you get to Union station.

At Union Station - go to the Gold Line station and catch the Metro to Del Mar station. Click here for the Gold Line schedule

    Shared Ride Vans:
There are basically two companies that operate between LAX (or Burbank Airport; see above) and Pasadena. This ride will take you anywhere between 45 minutes (if you are lucky and get on a full shuttle that is ready to leave the airport) and up to 1.5 to 2 hrs if you are really unlucky (since the vans tend to orbit the gates until they are full). You don't need to make reservations ahead of time but you can. More info at these sites:

    Super Shuttle - Blue Vans
Prime Time Shuttle - Red Vans
